To a solution of 1-(2-cyclopropyl-3-methylimidazo[1,2-a]pyridin-6-yl)-4-hydroxypyridin-2(1H)-one (3.0 g) in DMF (25 ml) was added phosphorus oxybromide (2.17 ml) at room temperature, and the mixture was stirred at 110° C. for 1 h. The mixture was diluted with EtOAc and water, quenched with saturated NaHCO3 solution, and extracted with EtOAc. The organic layer was separated, washed with water and brine successively, dried over MgSO4 and concentrated in vacuo. The residue was purified by column chromatography (hexane/EtOAc) to give the title compound (0.70 g) as a pale yellow solid.
