Procedure
Methyl 2-hydroxy-4-(1-piperidinylmethyl)-5-(trifluoromethyl)benzoate (may be prepared as described in Description 51; 230 mg, 0.72 mmol) was dissolved in N,N-dimethylformamide (5 mL) and cesium carbonate (264 mg, 0.81 mmol) and benzyl bromide (0.12 ml, 1.01 mmol) were added. The mixture was heated at 40° C. for 18 hours. Ethyl acetate (10 ml) and water (10 ml) were added and the organic layer was separated and washed with water (2×10 ml), dried (MgSO4) and the solvent removed in vacuo. Purification by column chromatography (1:1 cyclohexane/ethyl acetate-10% 7M NH3 in methanol/dichloromethane) gave the title compound as oil. 232 mg.
