Procedure
To a solution of 3-3 (3.3 g, 25 mmol) and 20 mg of p-toluenesulfonic acid in CH2Cl2 (100 mL) was added 3,4-dihydro-2H-pyran (2.7 mL, 30 mmol) and the resulting solution was stirred at rt for 30 minutes. Triethylamine (0.1 mL) was added and the solution was concentrated in vacuo. The compound was purified by flash chromatography using 40% EtOAc/hexanes to yield 4 g of 3-4 as a colorless oil. 1H NMR (400 MHz, acetone-d6): δ 7.0 (br s, 1H), 4.6 (s, 1H), 4.0 (m, 1H), 3.8 (m, 2H), 3.6 (m, 3H), 3.3 (dd, 1H), 1.9–1.4 (m, 6H).
