To a solution of DMSO (1.51 g, 19.3 mmol) in CH2Cl2 (25 ml) at −70° C. was added oxalyl chloride (1.34 g, 19.3 mmol). After 10 minutes at −70° C., a solution of (206a) (2.4 g, 8.8 mmol) in CH2Cl2 (10 ml) was added dropwise and the mixture stirred for 15 minutes at −70° C. Diisopropylethylamine (3.4 g, 26.3 mmol) was added and the mixture stirred at −25° C. for 15 minutes then diluting with EtOAc (50 ml) washed with a solution of sodium hydrogen sulfate 2M, concentrated to give an oil which was used immediately without purification: 1H NMR (CDCl3) δ9.5 (1H, s), 6.0-5.5 (2H, m), 5.5-5.1 (2H, m), 4.5 (2H, m), 4.2 (1H, m), 2.4-2.10 (2H, m), 2.05 (2H, m), 1.36 (9H, s).
