A mixture of 2-(2,4-dimethylphenoxy)-7-nitro-1,3-benzothiazole (220 mg, 0.733 mmol) and tin(II) chloride dihydrate (694 mg, 3.66 mmol) in DMF (10 ml) was stirred at 80° C. for 15 h and diluted with saturated NaHCO3 solution. The aqueous solution was extracted with AcOEt. The extract was washed with brine, dried over Magnesium sulfate, and concentrated under vacuum. The residue was purified by chromatography eluting with 10% AcOEt in n-hexane to afford 226 mg of the title compound.
