LiOH (0.82 mL, 0.82 mmol, 1.0 M in H2O) was added to a solution of methyl 4-benzyl-3-oxo-3,4-dihydropyrazine-2-carboxylate (100 mg, 0.41 mmol) in a mixture of THF (4.5 mL) and MeOH (1.5 mL) at ambient temperature for 4 hours. The reaction mixture was acidified to pH 1 with aqueous 1 N HCl solution and treated with water (5 mL), extracted with EtOAc, washed with brine, dried over MgSO4, and concentrated to afford 77 mg (82%) of the desired product.
