Sodium hydride (60 mg, 1.5 eq.) was added to a mixture of 5-benzoylamino-2,3-dihydro-indole-1-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester (570 mg, 1.68 mmol) and methyl iodide (0.42 mL, 4.0 eq.) in DMF (10 mL) at 0° C. and the resulting mixture was stirred for 20 min. After concentration, the residue from reaction mixture was diluted with sat. NaHCO3 and extracted with 3×EtOAc. The combined extracts were dried over Na2SO4, filtered, concentrated and the product was purified by chromatography (30% EtOAc-hexanes) to give 5-(benzoyl-methyl-amino)-2,3-dihydro-indole-1-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester (547 mg, 93%).
