Procedure
As described in Example 2, 2.86 g (0.0216 mol) of dicyclopentadiene, 4.97 g (0.0432 mol) of methyldichlorosilane, 0.051 g (0.000288 mol) of palladium dichloride, 86 μL (0.000267 mol) of tributylphosphine and 4 mL of toluene and 2 mL of hexadecane were placed in a reactor. The reactor was sealed and the reaction was performed at 180° C. for 1 hour. Products were subject to simple vacuum distillation, thereby providing a mixture (10.0 g) of (2-cyclopentenyl)methyldichlorosilane (0.9 g, 12%), other unreacted reactants, toluene, hexadecane, and unidentified compounds.
