Procedure
A mixture of 1.1 g of 2-(decyloxy)-5-[3(ethyloxycarbonyl)benzoyl]benzenepropanoic acid, ethyl ester and 220 mg of hydroxylamine hydrochloride in 25 ml of pyridine was heated at 70° C. for approximately 18 hours. The reaction was allowed to cool to ambient temperature, ethyl acetate was added, and the solution was washed several times with lN hydrochloric acid and water. The organic layer was dried over sodium sulfate and concentrated in vacuo to provide 1.04 g of the desired title product as an oil. NMR.
