Procedure
Cyclopropylmethanol (3.92 mL) was added to a suspension of sodium hydride (60% oil, 1.93 g) in THF (30 mL) by small portions at 0° C., and the obtained mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1 hr. To the reaction mixture was added 6-fluoro-4-methylnicotinic acid, and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 20 hr. The reaction mixture was neutralized with 1 M hydrochloric acid, and the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. The obtained organic layer was washed with saturated brine, and dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate, and the solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure. The obtained solid was recrystallized (hexane/ethyl acetate) to give the title compound (1.14 g).
