N,N-Dimethylformamide (3 ml) was added to 6-(2-chloro-ethoxy)-7-methoxy-4-(2-methyl-quinolin-3-yloxy)-quinoline (24 mg), potassium carbonate (25 mg), imidazole (12 mg), and sodium iodide (1.8 mg), and the mixture was stirred at 75° C. overnight. The reaction solution was cooled to room temperature, and the solvent was removed by distillation under the reduced pressure. Water was added to the residue, and the mixture was extracted with chloroform. The chloroform layer was washed with water and was then dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate. The solvent was removed by distillation under the reduced pressure. The residue was purified by thin layer chromatography using chloroform-methanol to give the title compound (9.2 mg, yield 36%).
