Procedure

A mixture of methyl [7-chloro-5-(4-nitrobenzyl)imidazo[1,2-c]pyrimidin-8-yl]acetate (0.383 g, 1.06 mmol) and SnCl2.2H2O (1.44 g, 6.37 mmol) in EtOH (5 mL) was heated at refluxing temperature for 1 hour. After cooling to room temperature, the reaction mixture was poured into sat. NaHCO3 aq. and EtOAc and the resulting white suspension was filtered through a pad of Celite. The aqueous layer was separated and extracted with EtOAc. The combined organic extracts was washed with brine, dried over anhydrous MgSO4, filtered, and concentrated in vacuo to give methyl [7-chloro-5-(4-aminobenzyl)imidazo[1,2-c]pyrimidin-8-yl]acetate (0.322 g, 92%).
