To 2-chloro-4-fluoro-(trifluoromethyl)benzene (2.39 g, 1.2 mmol) and 2-(trimethylsilyl)ethanol (2.13 g, 1.8 mmol) in anhydrous tetrahydrofuran (100 mL) was added sodium hydride (0.72 g, 1.8 mmol, 60% in mineral oil). The resulting mixture was stirred at room temperature for 18 hours under nitrogen. The reaction mixture was poured onto water and acidified with aqueous potassium hydrogen sulfate and extracted with ethyl acetate (3×30 mL), dried (MgSO4), filtered and concentrated in vacuo to afford 3.1 g (87%) of the title compound as a colourless oil.
