A mixture of dimethyl 5-hydroxyisophthalate (500 mg), (3-methyloxetan-3-yl)methyl 4-methylbenzenesulfonate (915 mg), and potassium carbonate (850 mg) in N,N-dimethylformamide (3 mL) is stirred at 50° C. for 5 h. The reaction mixture is diluted with water and the precipitate is filtered off, washed with water, and dried to give the title compound. LC (method 7): tR=0.97 min; Mass spectrum (ESI+): m/z=295 [M+H]+.
