In 5 mL of dimethyl sulfoxide was dissolved 0.50 g of 3-(trityloxy)azetidine hydrochloride, and to the solution were added 0.49 g of potassium carbonate, 0.35 g of potassium iodide and 0.22 mL of 1-bromo-3-chloropropane, after which the resulting mixture was stirred at room temperature for 2 hours. To the reaction mixture were added 15 mL of water and 10 mL of ethyl acetate, and the organic layer was separated. The organic layer was washed with water and then a saturated aqueous sodium chloride solution, and dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate. The solvent was distilled off under reduced pressure to obtain 1-(3-chloropropyl)-3-(trityloxy)azetidine.
