Procedure

Treatment of 2-methylpyrimidine (8.50 g) with lithium diisopropylamide (0.09 mole) in dry tetrahydrofuran followed by methyl 2,4-difluorobenzoate (15.5 g) according to the method of Example 11(i) gave the title compound (3.45 g), m.p. 86°-88° (from hexane).
