Procedure

To a solution of ethyl 4-methyl-2-(4-(3-phenylpropyl)-1H-1,2,3-triazol-1-yl)thiazole-5-carboxylate (7.04 g, 19.78 mmol) in a mixture of tetrahydrofuran (25 mL) and water (25 mL) was added lithium hydroxide (4.15 g, 98.90 mmol). The reaction mixture was stirred at ambient temperature 18 hours, acidified with 10% hydrochloric acid solution, and extracted with dichloromethane (2×100 μL). The organic layer was separated, dried over anhydrous sodium sulphate, filtered and concentrated in vacuo to afford the title compound in 89% yield (5.82 g): 1H NMR (300 MHz, DMSO-d6) δ 8.72 (s, 1H), 7.31-7.15 (m, 5H), 2.75-2.49 (m, 7H), 2.00-1.95 (m, 2H); MS (ES+) m/z 329.2 (M+1).
