Procedure

N-{2-[(2,3-Difluorobenzyl)thio]-6-methoxypyrimidin-4-yl}-1,4-dioxa-8-azaspiro[4.5]decane-8-sulfonamide (the product of step ii) (0.85 g) was heated to 50° C. in a mixture of 2 M aqueous hydrochloric acid (17 mL) and THF (17 mL). After 24 h, the reaction was allowed to cool to room temperature then diluted with ethyl acetate, the layers separated and the organic material washed with saturated aqueous sodium bicarbonate, water, saturated aqueous sodium chloride, dried with sodium sulfate, filtered and evaporated to afford the subtitle compound as a yellow oil. Yield: 0.83 g
