To a solution of 1-(4-bromobenzyl)-5-methoxy-2-methylindole-3-acetic acid (8.5 g, 21.9 mmol) in 85 mL of THF at -10° C. was added triethylamine (3.8 mL, 27.4 mmol) and isobutylchloroformate (3.4 mL, 26.3 mmol). The reaction mixture was stirred for 15 min. then ammonia gas was bubbled through the solution for 5 min. A white precipitate formed whiCh was collected by vacuum filtration. The solid was washed with H2O then THF to give 6.8 g (80%) of the desired amide.
