Procedure
To a solution of 4-chlorobenzaldehyde (2.88 g, 20.5 mmol), (S)-(−)-2-methyl-2-propanesulfinamide (1.40 g, 11.6 mmol), and (R)-(+)-2-methyl-2-propanesulfinamide (1.40 g, 11.6 mmol) in anhydrous tetrahydrofuran (30.0 mL) under nitrogen atmosphere was added titanium tetraisopropoxide (6.00 mL, 20.3 mmol) dropwise. The clear solution was stirred at room temperature for 3 hours. Methylene chloride (200 mL) and water (2.0 mL) were added and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1 hour. The suspension was filtered through Celite and washed with DCM. The filtrate was concentrated in vacuo and purified by column chromatography (gradient elution: 0-20% EtOAc/hexane) to afford N-[(E)-(4-chlorophenyl)methylene]-2-methylpropane-2-sulfinamide (3.93 g, yield 78.7%). LCMS: (FA) ES+ 244; 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3) δ 8.55 (s, 1H), 7.78-7.80 (d, 2H, J=8.53 Hz), 7.44-7.47 (d, 2H, J=8.53 Hz), 1.26 (s, 9H).
