Procedure

Trimethylsulfoxonium iodide (2.20 g, 10.00 mmol) was added to a suspension of sodium hydride (60% dispersion in oil, 0.40 g, 10.00 mmol) in anhydrous THF and stirred at room temperature for 1 h. 3-(1H-Indol-6-yl)-N-methoxy-N-methylacrylamide (0.90 g, 3.90 mmol) was dissolved in anhydrous THF and added dropwise to the cloudy white suspension. The mixture was stirred for 16 h at room temperature. The reaction was quenched with a solution of saturated ammonium chloride. Water was added and the solution was extracted with methylene chloride. The organic layer was dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate, filtered, and concentrated in vacuo to give 2-(1H-indol-6-yl)-cyclopropanecarboxylic acid methoxy-methyl-amide as a yellowish solid (0.96 g, 100%). LC-MS: MH+: 245.12, 72% AP.
