Procedure
A solution of 4.53 g (0.022 mol) of the sodium salt of saccharin and 5 g (0.022 mol) of 1-phenyl-4-chloromethyl-tetrazolin-5-thione in 50 ml of DMF was heated at 130° for four hours, then cooled and poured into ice water. The solid which separated was collected, washed with water, dried and chromatographed on silica gel, eluting with MDC, to give 4.8 g (58%) of 2-(1-phenyl-5-thioxotetrazolin-4-ylmethyl) saccharin, mp 140°-142° C.
