2,6-Dimethylaniline (75 grams), 2-chloromethyl-1,3-dioxane prepared in Example 1 (35 grams), potassium carbonate (30 grams) and dimethyl formamide (50 ml) were charged into a glass reaction vessel equipped with a mechanical stirrer, thermometer and reflux condenser. The reaction mixture was then heated at reflux for a period of about 16 hours. After this time the reaction mixture was filtered and the filtrate was distilled to yield the desired product N-(1,3-dioxan-2-ylmethyl)-2,6-dimethylaniline as a residue which crystallized upon standing at room temperature.
