Ethyl bromoacetate (1.04 mL) was added to a mixture of 4-bromo-2-ethoxyphenol (1.69 g) and potassium acetate (1.62 g) in N,N-dimethylformamide (10 mL), and the mixture was stirred at room temperature overnight. Water and ethyl acetate were added to the reaction mixture. The organic layer was separated, washed with water and brine, and dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate. The solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure, and the residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (eluent:diethyl ether/n-hexane=1/10) to afford ethyl (4-bromo-2-ethoxyphenoxy)acetate (2.26 g).
