Procedure
In dichloromethane (7 ml), trans-4-(N-tert-butoxycarbonylaminomethyl)cyclohexane carboxaldehyde (0.13 g) was dissolved, followed by the addition of 1-[(6-chloronaphthalen-2-yl)sulfonyl]piperazine trifluoroacetate (0.24 g), triethylamine (78 μl) and sodium triacetoxyborohydride (0.17 g). The resulting mixture was stirred at room temperature for 11 hours under an argon gas atmosphere. To the reaction mixture, an aqueous solution of sodium bicarbonate was added, followed by dilution with dichloromethane. The organic layer so separated was dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate. The residue obtained by distilling off the solvent under reduced pressure was purified by chromatography on a silica gel column (hexane:ethyl acetate=2:1), whereby the title compound (0.29 g, 100%) was obtained.
