5.6 g (0.0225 mol) of 2-chlorothioxanthone and 2.6 g (0.0225 mol) of the potassium salt of 2-mercaptoethanol are stirred for 18 hours in 20 mol of N,N-dimethylacetamide at 100° C. The reaction mixture is then poured into 2N hydro-chloric acid and extracted with ethyl acetate. After conventional work-up and chromatographic purification, 3.5 g of the analytically pure compound IIIa of melting point 94° C. are obtained.
