Procedure
To methyl 4-[3-[N-[4-(3,4-ethylenedioxybenzylamino) phenyl]amino]propoxy]benzoate (2.1 g) were added methanol (100 ml), tetrahydrofuran (20 ml) and 2N sodium hydroxyide (12 ml), and the mixture was stirred at 45°-50° C. overnight. To the reaction mixture was added water (150 ml), then, after the mixture was neutralized with 2N hydrochloric acid, the resulting precipitate was collected by filtration, washed with water and ethanol to give 4-[3-[N-[4-(3,4-ethylenedioxybenzylamino)phenyl]amino]propoxy]benzoic acid (0.4 g). mp. 246°-247° C.
