Procedure
To a solution of 23-5 (290 mg, 1.0 mmol) in 7.6 mL of THF and 10 mL of water was added 210 mg (5.0 mmol) of LiOH. The resulting solution was stirred for 40 h, then acidified by the addition of 10 mL of 1N HCl. The aqueous phase was extracted with 2×20 mL of EtOAc. The organic extracts were washed with brine (5 mL) and dried over MgSO4. Evaporation of the solvent afforded acid 23-6 which was used without purification.
