5-(3-Nitro-phenyl)-4-pyridin-4-yl-2H-pyrazole-3-thiol (298 mg, 1.0 mmol) was dissolved in dry DMF (12.5 mL) under nitrogen atmosphere. Solid potassium carbonate (690 mg, 5 mmol, 5 eq) was added followed by 1,2-dibromoethane (0.086 mL, 1 mmol, 1 eq) and the suspension was stirred at room temperature for 3 hours. The reaction mixture was then diluted with ethyl acetate (60 mL) and washed with saturated aqueous NaHCO3 and brine. The organic layer was dried over Na2SO4 and concentrated under reduced pressure. 280 mg of 6-(3-nitro-phenyl)-7-pyridin-4-yl-2,3-dihydro-pyrazolo[5,1-b]thiazole were obtained as an off-white solid (87%).
