To a mixture of 2-oxo-N-(pyridin-4-yl)-1,2-dihydropyridine-3-carboxamide (8.0 g, 1.0 eq) in dry DMF (30 mL) was added 4-nitro-2,3-dihydro-1H-inden-1-one (1.2 eq) and PPh3 (3.0 eq), then added DIAD (3.0 eq) under N2 atmosphere. Then the mixture was stirred at room temperature overnight. At the end of reaction, water was added and extracted with ethyl acetate. The combined organic layer was washed with brine and dried over MgSO4, filtrated and evaporated to give the crude product, which was purified by Flash Column (PE:EtOAc=1:2), concentrated the crude product, and recrystallized by EtOAc to give 1-(4-nitro-2,3-dihydro-1H-inden-1-yl)-2-oxo-N-(pyridin-4-yl)-1,2-dihydropyridine-3-carboxamide (3.5 g, 21%). MS (ESI) 377.0 (M+H); 1H NMR (300 MHz, CDCl3) δ 12.22 (s, 1H), 8.62 (m, 1H), 8.53 (m, 2H), 8.24 (m, 1H), 7.67 (m, 2H), 7.49 (m, 2H), 6.75 (m, 1H), 6.50 (m, 1H), 3.71 (m, 1H), 3.57 (m, 1H), 2.97 (m, 1H), 2.21 (m, 2H).
