To a mixture of isatoic anhydride (750 mg, 4.60 mmol) and 2-amino-pentanoic acid methyl ester hydrochloride (1.4 g, 8.35 mmol) (prepared according to example C), in DMF (10 mL) is added triethylamine (2.0 mL, 14.30 mmol). The mixture is stirred at room temperature for 16 hours. The reaction mixture is diluted with EtOAc (100 mL) and is washed with H2O (50 mL×3). The organic layer is dried over sodium sulfate, concentrated and the resulting residue is purified by flash chromatography with 35% EtOAc in Hexane as the eluent to afford the desired 2-(2-amino-benzoylamino)-pentanoic acid methyl ester (575 mg, 50%).
