N-(6-Methyl-5-nitro-pyridin-2-yl)-acetamide (0.5 g) was taken in 5 mL anhydrous DMF. 3 eq of K2CO3 and 3 eq of bromomethyl-cyclobutane were added and heated at 80° C. for 24 h. Water was added to the reaction and the mixture extracted with EtOAc (2×10 mL). The organic layer was washed with water and brine and dried over Na2SO4. Solvent was concentrated and the residue was purified over silica to give N-Cyclobutylmethyl-N-(6-methyl-5-nitro-pyridin-2-yl)-acetamide LCMS (m/z): 264.
