Procedure
A mixture of [2-hydroxy-2-methyl-4-(methylsulfonyl)phenyl]propanone (1.5 g, 6.2 mmol, B. Cameron et al., WO 9619469), 4-bromophenylacetic acid (1.8 g, 8.1 mmol), 1-cyclohexyl-3-(2-morphorynoethyl)carbodiimide metho-p-toluenesulfonate (3.4 g, 8.1 mmol) and 4-(dimethylamino)pyridine (30 mg, 0.25 mmol) was stirred for 18 h at room temperature. 1,8-Diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec-7-ene (1.9 mL, 12.7 mmol) was added and the mixture was refluxed for 3 h. After cooled to room temperature, H2O (50 mL) was added and extracted with CH2Cl2 (50 mL×2), washed with 2N aqueous HCl (50 mL), dried over MgSO4, and concentarted in vacuo. The reaction mixture was purified by flash chromatography eluting with ethyl acetate/hexane (1/1) to give title compound (1.7 g, 65%).
