DMF (0.257 mL, 3.32 mmol) was added to a stirred mixture of POCl3 (0.722 mL, 7.74 mmol) at 0° C. and the reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 5 minutes. Then 2-phenyl-5-(2,4,5-trifluorophenyl)-2,4-dihydro-3H-pyrazol-3-one (321 mg, 1.106 mmol) in DMF (1 mL) was added slowly to the reaction mixture at 0° C. and the reaction mixture was heated at 70° C. for 16 hours. It was then poured into a cooled saturated solution of potassium carbonate and the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic layer was washed with water and brine, dried over sodium sulfate, filtered and concentrated. The residue was purified by column chromatography on silica gel (Biotage 12M) eluting with EtOAc/hexanes to give the product as a colorless solid.
