Procedure
Phosphorus oxychloride (0.385 mL, 4.14 mmol.) and quinolin-5-ol (Aldrich, 600 mg, 4.14 mmol.) were stirred in anhydrous THF (25 mL). Anhydrous triethylamine was added (0.576 mL, 4.14 mmol.) at −78° C. and the solution was allowed to warm to room temperature. The reaction mixture was monitored by 31PNMR for completion of phosphorus oxychloride (about 30 min) and this mixture was used directly.
