A mixture of 2-bromomethyl-3-(4-fluoro-phenoxy)-benzoic acid ethyl ester (3.37 g, 9.57 mmol), (toluene-4-sulfonylamino)-acetic acid methyl ester (2.33 g, 9.57 mmol), sodium iodide (2.15 g, 14.36 mmol) and potassium carbonate (1.98 g, 14.36 mmol) in anhydrous dimethylformamide (22 mL) was stirred at room temperature for 24 h before it was quenched with water, and extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic layer was washed with water, brine, dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate and concentrated in vacuo. The residue was purified by flash column chromatography on silica gel with a gradient of ethyl acetate and hexane to give the title compound as a yellow oil (2.67 g): MS: (+) m/z 538.13 (M+Na+).
