A mixture of 2-isopropyl-5-methoxy-1H-pyrrolo[2,3-c]pyridine-3-carbaldehyde (Compound 6, 110 mg, 0.50 mmol), benzyl bromide (0.18 ml, 1.50 mmol), and K2CO3 (208 mg, 1.50 mmol) in DMF (2.5 ml) was stirred at room temperature for 4 h. The solvent was removed in vacuo and the residue was purified by chromatography on silica gel (50% EtOAc-hexanes) to yield the title compound as yellow solid.
