Procedure
Two grams (g) (0.0145 mole) of hydroxyethyl chloroacetamide and 3.3 g (0.0146 mole) of ethoxyethoxyethoxyethoxy ethene were combined and dissolved in 5 milliliters (ml) of tetrahydrofuran. The reaction mixture was cooled in an ice bath and 2 drops of methane sulfonic acid were added. The mixture was allowed to stir for approximately 2 hours and then 25 ml of a 5% aqueous solution of potassium carbonate were added. The product was extracted with dichloromethane, dried and stripped.
