To a solution of 1.17 ml. of thioanisole in 20 ml. of dry tetrahydrofuran were added 8.4 ml. of a 1.2M solution of n-butyllithium in n-hexane at -20° C. and the mixture was stirred at the same temperature of 1.5 hours to give a 0.28M solution of phenylthiomethyllithium in tetrahydrofuran.
