Procedure

To a solution of benzhydryl 7-[2-methoxyimino-2-(2-aminothiazol-4-yl)acetamido]-3-[2-(3-pyridazinyl)vinyl]-3-cephem-4-carboxylate (syn isomer) (trans isomer) (0.65 g) in methylene chloride (6.5 ml) and anisole (1.5 ml) was added trifluoroacetic acid (3.0 ml) under ice-cooling with stirring. The reaction mixture was stirred at ambient temperature for 30 minutes. The resultant solution was added dropwise to diisopropyl ether (100 ml), and the precipitate was collected by filtration, dissolved in an aqueous solution of sodium bicarbonate. The aqueous layer (100 ml) was washed with ethyl acetate (50 ml) twice, concentrated to 30 ml under reduced pressure and adjusted to pH 3.0 with 10% hydrochloric acid. The precipitate was collected by filtration, washed with water and dried over phosphorus pentoxide under reduced pressure to give 7-[2-methoxyimino-2-(2-aminothiazol-4-yl)acetamido]-3-[2-(3-pyridazinyl)vinyl]-3-cephem-4-carboxylic acid (syn isomer) (trans isomer) (0.37 g).
