A mixture of 4-aminophenol (2 g, 18.33 mmol) and 2-chloro-5-methylpyridine (2.57 g, 20.16 mmol) was heated neat at 180° C. in 2 h. The reaction mixture was cooled, taken up in H2O, neutralized with saturated NaHCO3, extracted with DCM (3×). The extracts were dried over MgSO4, concentrated to give the dark purple solid. MS (ESI, pos. ion) m/z: 201.1 (M+1).
