To a stirred solution of 4-benzyloxycarbonylamino-4-methyl-3,4,5,6-tetrahydro-2H-(1,2′)bipyridinyl-5′-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester (0.29 g, 0.68 mmol) in isopropanol, methanol and ethyl acetate (1:1:1, 5.0 mL) at room temperature was added ammonium formate (0.25 g, 1.07 mmol) and 10% Pd/C (25 mg) under nitrogen. The reaction mixture was stirred at 80° C. for 30 minutes, cooled, filtered through Celite, and concentrated under reduced pressure to provide the titled compound. MS (CT) m/z 292 (M+1)+; 1H NMR (300 MHz, methanol-d4) δ ppm 8.61 (d, 1H), 7.95 (d, d 1H), 6.79 (d, 1H), 4.80 (s, 2H), 3.85-3.79 (m, 2H), 3.66-3.60 (m, 2H), 1.67-1.59 (m, 4H), 1.58 (s, 9H), 1.23 (s, 3H).
