Procedure

A solution of 2-methyl-3-carboxy-4-hydroxy-8-(2′,4′-dichlorophenyl)-1,7-naphthyridine (0.41 g, 1.2 mmole) in diphenyl ether (0.4 ml) is stirred and heated to 230° C. for 1.5 h. The solution is allowed to cool to r.t., and POCl3 (0.8 ml) is added. This mixture is heated to 100° C. for 2 h, then allowed to cool to r.t., and poured into 5% NaHCO3. This is extracted with EtOAc, the organic phase washed with brine, dried and concentrated. The product is purified by flash chromatography on silica gel to give the title compound D7.
