PROCEDURE

To a suspension of 10 (194 mg, 0.77 mmol) in Ph2O (10 mL) was added 2-fluoro-4-nitrophenol (240 mg, 1.53 mmol) and potassium carbonate (425 mg, 3.08 mmol) and the reaction mixture was heated at 180° C. for 4 hrs. The reaction mixture was cooled to room temperature and diluted with EtOAc. The resultant solution was washed with water and the organic layer was collected, dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate and filtered. The solvents were removed under reduced pressure; the residue was dissolved in DCM, and purified by column chromatography (eluent EtOAc-hexane 4:1) to afford 11 (190 mg, 66% yield) as a yellow solid. 1H NMR (400 MHz, DMSO-d6) ppm: 8.61 (d, J=5.5 Hz, 1H), 8.46 (dd, J=2.74 and 10.37 Hz), 8.24 (s, 1H), 8.20-8.10 (m, 1H), 7.95 (s, 2H), 7.73 (t, J=8 Hz, 1H), 6.98 (d, J=5.3 Hz, 1H).
