2.0 μg of 4-chloro-1H-imidazo[4,5-c]pyridine, 1.37 ml of 1-bromo-2-butyne, and 1.98 g of potassium carbonate were suspended in 15 ml of N,N-dimethylformamide, and the suspension was stirred at room temperature for 18 hours. The reaction solution was diluted with ethyl acetate, and washed with water. The organic layer was dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate, then filtered. The filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography. Thus, 1.79 g of a 1:1 mixture consisting of the title compound and the compound alkylated at the 1-position was obtained from the fraction eluted with hexane-ethyl acetate (1:2).
