Procedure

A mixture of 5-chloro-2-hydroxy-benzaldehyde (13.9 g, 89.2 mmol), K2CO3 (24.6 g, 178.3 mmol) and N-tert-butyl-C-chloro-methanesulfonamide (16.5 g, 89.2 mmol) in DMF (20 mL) was heated at 60° C. overnight. After cooled to room temperature, the mixture was neutralized by addition of aqueous HCl solution and extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic phase was washed with water, brine, dried over anhydrous Na2SO4 and concentrated to give the crude product. The crude product was washed with diethyl ether to give the title compound (13.5 g).
