Procedure
To a solution of 4-Bromo-2-(3-fluoro-5-methoxy-benzoyl)-benzoic acid ethyl ester (165 mg; 0.43 mmol) in 900 μl tetrahydrofuran is added a 1 M solution of LiOH in water (866 μl; 0.87 mmol). It is stirred at ambient temperature for 2 hours. The reaction mixture is acidified with 1 N HCl and washed with methylene dichloride several times. The organic layers are pooled, dried over MgSO4 and evaporated to dryness.
