Procedure

A mixture of 2-iodopropane (3.7 g, 21.77 mmol, 1.00 equiv), 2,6-dichloro-4-iodophenol (5 g, 17.31 mmol, 0.80 equiv) and potassium carbonate (9.2 g, 66.09 mmol, 3.04 equiv) in N,N-dimethylformamide (50 mL) was stirred for overnight at 50° C. The resulting solution was diluted with 300 mL of ethyl acetate then washed with 3×100 mL of brine. The organic layer was dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate and concentrated under vacuum. The residue was purified on a silica gel column eluted with petroleum ether (100%) to give 4.6 g (64%) of 1,3-dichloro-5-iodo-2-isopropoxybenzene as a light yellow oil. 1H-NMR (300 MHz, CDCl3): δ 7.60 (s, 2H), 4.63-4.54 (m, 1H), 1.34 (d, J=5.1 Hz, 6H) ppm.
