Palladium acetate (344 mg) was added to a mixture of ethyl 4-bromo-3-ethoxy-5-hydroxybenzoate (8.87 g), tripotassium phosphate (19.5 g), (4-fluorophenyl)boronic acid (10.7 g), tricyclohexylphosphine (20% toluene solution, 5.45 mL), toluene (80 mL), and water (40 mL), and the resultant mixture was stirred overnight at 90° C. in an argon atmosphere. The reaction mixture was allowed to cool to room temperature, then diluted with ethyl acetate, and washed with water and saturated saline in this order. The organic layer was dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate, and then, the solvent was distilled off under reduced pressure. The obtained residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (hexane/ethyl acetate) to obtain the title compound (9.34 g).
