A mixture of 5-methyl-4-phenyl-2,3,3a,4,5,9b-hexahydro-1H-pyrrolo[3,2-c]quinoline (130 mg, 0.48 mmol), (1S,2R)-2-(benzoylamino)cyclohexanecarboxylic acid (131 mg, 0.53 mmol), WSC (116 mg, 0.61 mmol), HOBt (97 mg, 0.63 mmol), acetonitrile (5 ml) and tetrahydrofuran (5 ml) was stirred at room temperature for 12 hrs. Saturated aqueous sodium hydrogen carbonate solution was added to the reaction mixture and the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. The extract was washed with saturated brine, dried (over anhydrous Na2SO4), and the solvent was evaporated. The residue was subjected to column chromatography using silica gel (150 g) and eluted with hexane-ethyl acetate (4:1-1:1, v/v) to give the title compound (200 mg, 84%) as an amorphous form.
